The Simplest Way to Check IRS Refund StatusEvery year, all American citizens who have earned income need to file for their federal income taxes. For most of us, our employers hold those taxes back for us and at the end of the year we get our W-2 forms so we can report our income. For those who are self employed the process involved quarterly taxes that must be held back for the same purpose. Regardless of our level of income, all of us would like to be able to get our refund checks back quickly simply because that puts extra cash in our pockets which is always a good thing. Those who need to know how to check IRS refund status will be delighted to find out how simple it really is. The process of checking the status for your federal refund is easier than you might think. On the home page for the Internal Revenue Service you will see a tool called "Where's My Refund?". By selecting this interactive program directly from the website, you can check your refund status regardless of whether you are having your refund check mailed to you via the traditional means, having that refund direct deposited into your personal bank account or even if you have your refund being divided among several of your own bank accounts. Fortunately for taxpayers, this service is available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. This means you can log in and check the status of your federal return at any time you like. Those who filed their tax returns using the traditional paper forms sent in through the mail will need to wait three to four weeks before they can check IRS refund status, but those who have taken advantage of the e-filing method will be able to get the information on their refund within 72 hours of having the IRS acknowledge receiving their return. As long as the proper amount of time has passed for the way that you filed, you should be able to check your return provided you have the following information: the exact figure of your refund as shown on your federal tax return, your Social Security number, and the status that you filed under. Keep in mind that refunds are only issued on Fridays so if you use this online tool you will want to wait a week until you use it again. |
