Lower Your Stress Level by Understanding the IRS Refund Schedule

While filing your tax returns this year can be stressful, waiting for that much needed refund, whether by the super quick direct deposit method or check, can be just as frustrating. Part of alleviating the stress associated with hoping your refund gets to you quickly can be alleviated by knowing about the IRS refund schedule so that you have a general idea of how long it is going to take to get that refund back into your hands. Since you only get a refund if you have paid more than you needed to on your taxes this year, the money contained within it is literally your money. It makes sense that you would want it back as quickly as you can since critics widely agree that refunds are essentially interest free taxpayer loans to the federal government. The first things you are going to need to know are how you filed your tax return this year, whether by the easy efile system or through the traditional sending in of paper based forms, because this has the biggest effect on the amount of time you will need to wait to get your refund.

You can check the status of any tax return that you have filed online, or with paper forms, by going to the official website of the US Internal Revenue Service where you will see a tool known as 'Where's My Refund?' that will help you determine the status of your return. In order for this tool to help you determine the IRS refund schedule for your personal refund, you will need to know your own Social Security number, along with that of your spouse's, if you have filed jointly while married. Along with this information, you will need to know the exact amount of your expected refund, as shown on the return that you filed with the IRS, down to the exact dollar. Aside from this, you need to know the status that you filed under, as well. Once you have this information then it is going to be able to get an idea of where your refund fits into the schedule. Remember, you will need to wait a full week (7 days) until you can check the status of your return if you have efiled, but if you sent in a paper form then you are going to have to hold out for four to six weeks before the online system can give you an approximate date by which you can expect your refund to arrive.
